Earlville was established on the banks of Indian Creek in 1832. Earlville was incorporated as a city in 1863. The residential area is a mix of new and traditional housing including Victorian style residences. Camping is available at Buffalo Rock State Park, Ottawa; Illini State Park, Marseilles; Shabbona Lake State Recreational Area and Starved Rock State Park, Utica.
