"Sin-Qua-Sip", the Indian name for Sugar Grove, had its beginning in the Spring of 1834 at what is now known as Bliss Woods Forest Preserve. James and Isaac Isbell, their nephew Parmeno Isbell, James Carmen and Mr. Bishop were the founding fathers of Sugar Grove. The Village of Sugar Grove was incorporated in 1957 with a population of 125. In the Sugar Grove Community, parks and recreation services have been provided by voluntary and public agencies. Sugar Grove's parks include Volunteer Park, Sugar Grove Sports Complex, Keck Park and Mallard Point Park. Sugar Grove's neighboring City of Aurora offers several churches of almost every denomination. Sugar Grove's schools are John Shields Elementary in Sugar Grove and Kaneland High School in Maple Park. Waubonsee Community College is located in Sugar Grove. Air Classics is an aviation museum located at Aurora Municipal Airport where the aircraft actually fly. You can sit in an A-7 that flew in the Gulf War and climb into the pilot's seat of a UH-1 Huey helicopter. The museum's collection includes aircraft, vehicles, uniforms and other aviation memorabilia from the 1930's to the present time. Sugar Grove's mission statement has always been to provide the most comprehensive leisure and recreational opportunities to all residents of Sugar Grove Township and improve their quality of life while keeping taxation to a minimum.
